Development Specialist

The Community Food Bank of New Jersey (CFBNJ) is the state’s largest food bank. We provide food for 15 out of 21 New Jersey counties. Distributing over 90 million meals last year, maintaining pandemic service levels. Our mission is to fight hunger and poverty in New Jersey by assisting those in need and seeking long term solutions. Hunger exists in every community from the poorest to the most affluent.


The Development Specialist at the Community Foodbank of New Jersey will perform administrative duties related to fundraising, volunteer and event management, stewardship activities and relationship management at the Egg Harbor Township (EHT) location.


Development Specialists are responsible for coding, overseeing acknowledgments, and updating the donor database for relationships managed in Egg Harbor Township. The role will involve collaboration with team members on social media communication to raise the organization’s visibility and represent CFBNJ at community outreach and networking events.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Administrative/Financial Management: 40%

· Code and process weekly donations in preparation to send to Donor Services

· Prepare weekly bank deposits

· Reconciliation of revenue related to special events and fundraising activities

· Support the Egg Harbor Twp. Advisory Committee, including taking meeting minutes and sending them to committee members in a timely fashion

· Prepare social media communication to raise the organization’s visibility


External Relations, Volunteers, Events, & Donor Management: 40%

· Work with the Resource Development team in establishing and adhering to event budgets, assisting with event preparation, sponsorships, and attending events to assist in set-up, implementation, and clean-up.

· Update the donor database

· Attend networking events to increase professional network and enhance CFBNJ’S outreach and capacity

· Serve as back-up for EHT Volunteer Manager

· Research corporate groups in EHT service area and provide leads to Volunteer Manager


Resource Development: 20%

· Assist with the production and implementation of appeal campaigns and other fundraising communications and strategies

· Oversee event acknowledgment process


Essential Skills and Experience:

· A bachelor's degree along with at least two years of experience in non-profit experience, development and/or event management.

· Superior judgment, professionalism, and poise to interface with board members, advisory committee members and potential donors is necessary.

· Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office 365, Word, Excel, and Outlook software is essential for success.

· The ability to work well on a team and learn new concepts quickly.

· Experience in database management, specifically Salesforce and Classy, are a plus.

· Must possess a driver’s license and be able to work a varied schedule to attend events.
